jon barad's professional interpreting career began in 1996. he has earned three national certifications: a certificate of interpretation and a certificate of transliteration which were awarded in 2002, and a national interpreter certification in 2009. awarded by the registry for interpreters of the deaf, his credentials may be verified here. in 2003, he became qualified to interpret in the maryland courts by order of the administrative office of the courts of maryland and has since participated in over 30 hours of legal interpreting instruction.
jon has a bachelor of arts degree from oberlin college. while there, he participated in the exchange program with gallaudet university. it was at gallaudet that jon fell in love with the aesthetics of deaf culture. jon believes that having a family member with a hearing loss has contributed to his sensitivity to deafness and a greater understanding of deafness. |
